'Giant' Support for Integrated Education The Coors Belfast Giants and the Odyssey have teamed up with the Integrated Education Fund to celebrate Integrated Education Week 2007 in a GIANT way! Several of the Belfast Giants’ star players made visits to 6 Integrated Primary Schools in the Belfast area to carry out a Fitness Workshop. The P7 classes at Cranmore; Forge; Hazelwood; Loughview; Millennium and Oakwood Integrated Primary Schools were put through their paces with a fun and interactive session led by the Giants’ players! A ‘Giant Task’ was set at the end of the day and the class had to get their thinking caps on to create an ice hockey team, including shirt design and team name, for their school. Todd ‘killer’ Kelman, General Manager of the Belfast Giants, had the casting vote to decide the winner. After much deliberation the ‘OAKWOOD EAGLES’ were announced the winning team. Todd congratulated all the schools for their efforts and the high standard of their entries. Todd said, “I was really delighted to work with the Integrated Education Fund on this initiative to help celebrate Integrated Education Week 2007. We had a great time at the schools and I was really impressed with the standard of all the Giant Task entries. It was a real challenge to decide the winner as a great deal of effort, teamwork and creativity went into them all. Good work guys!!” The
winning class from Oakwood Integrated Primary School, spent a ‘Giant
Day Out’ at the Odyssey on Friday 9th March, meeting the Giants
during training as well as having a backstage tour of the Odyssey, a
game of bowling and some lunch, generously donated by the Sheridan Group,
Odyssey Pavilion and Odyssey Bowl. The day was a great success and everyone
had a fantastic time!
