NIGHT LIFE REVIEW SUNDAY LIFE
Atmosphere:
There’s a lively mood about The Basin, probably
because it has a sports theme. A good, varied soundtrack plays loudly
enough in the background midweek, while a DJ will sort
the weekend crowd out. Music channels provide background visuals on
numerous plasma screens. Come big match days, this place
will be thronged with avid sports fans.
Crowd:
I find it to be a bit of a starter bar so expect cinema
goers, footie fans and those popping in for a pre-club drink. You
could make a night out of this place if you fancied at
the weekend when a DJ takes to the floor.
Service: Pleasant and courteous.
Décor:
What is it about bars in the Odyssey with their samey
industrial ceiling and exposed wiring, tubing and everything else?
It’s almost like there’s a rule that says
‘do not cover.’ Despite the ceiling, it’s a plain
enough wee bar.
Black leather seating and a lot of woodwork
make up the majority of this interior. What’s nice though it
the boxed sepia painting of Belfast docks from long ago.
This bar capitalises on sports games, but
despite some posters, a couple of sports kits and sports animation
painted on the winders there’s nothing permanent
to say so. It’s a nice bar, minimalist and spacious with pleasant
raised seating areas that give way to privacy.
Prices:
A pint of draught will cost £2.70. Cocktails are
£4.50, shooters £2.50. There are some good drink deals
on, especially during the matches when 20p is knocked
off selected pints every time a goal is scored!
Drinks:
Everything and anything. It’s well stocked and caters
to all tastes.
Type of Bar:
Starter bar or after dinner drinkers venue during the
week. Come the weekend’ it can hold a crowd in its own right.
Address:
Odyssey Pavilion, 2 Queen's Quay, Belfast.
